Over the past few years working closely with smart wearable manufacturing, I’ve watched the market quietly shift. While retail smartwatches still dominate headlines, the real growth curve I’m seeing in RFQs is coming from an unexpected direction: enterprise and industrial buyers placing bulk orders for purpose-built devices.
A few patterns stand out from recent client conversations:
🔹 Outdoor security & patrol teams need rugged watches with SOS alerts, GPS tracking, and long standby time — not fitness features, but reliability in harsh environments.
🔹 Elderly care providers are procuring fleets of watches with fall detection, heart rate alerts, and geofencing to support aging-in-place programs at scale.
🔹 Logistics and fleet operators are integrating wearables into workflow systems — think driver fatigue monitoring, task notifications, and real-time location for last-mile teams.
🔹 Corporate wellness programs are buying hundreds of units at once for employee health tracking, often requiring custom branding and dashboard integration.
What’s common across all four? These buyers don’t want a “smartwatch” — they want a solution: durable hardware, flexible firmware, API access, and MOQ flexibility for pilot-to-scale rollouts.
For manufacturers and suppliers still focused purely on B2C retail channels, this is a signal worth paying attention to. The margins, order volumes, and repeat-business potential in vertical B2B use cases are significant — and often underserved.
If you’re sourcing for a specific enterprise use case, I’d love to exchange notes on what’s working (and what isn’t) in this space.
